To Be or Not To Be- Naked That Is

I am trying to atone for my weekend of eating and drinking by being extra good at the gym this week.  Rather than just doing laps for 2400m, I am completing 1600m of laps and 1600m with the kickboard and fins.  In the interest of full disclosure, my kickboarding portion was 280m short due to a calf cramp, but that is still better than the 2400m I was swimming up until recently.  Even with the cramping, the pool is not the issue- the locker room is!

I was in the locker room yesterday after my swim, and this woman (maybe in her late 20s) was walking around buck ass nekkid.  She had a mud mask on, which made me think that she had been au naturel for quite some time.  And so she stayed- walking to the toilet, to the sink, back to her locker.  She finally slipped on the smallest of thongs when I was on my way out of the locker room.  Today I was faced with an even worse situation.  An older woman (she was in her 40s in 1985 when she moved from New York to London, so she is well into her 60s at the very least) felt like having a conversation with me today as she UNDRESSED and walked- naked- to the shower.  I spoke with her for long enough to learn everything in the above parenthetical, and I wish the pleasure had been indefinitely postponed.  There is only so much staring at the floor I can do.

So the question is this- is my reaction too prudish, or is it reasonable for me to think that parading around the locker room naked is a bit rude to others who have to share the space?  I don't expect women to always change in the little changing rooms provided, but come on ladies, part of changing means covering up again!  Thoughts?

HAHA! Oh no. I hate talking to naked people in the locker room. :) People have different levels of what they feel is appropriate. I will completely change in the locker room, meaning I have to be without undies or a bra at some point. But I do it QUICKLY and turn away from others as it is happening.

I have a couple of friends that will only change in the shower or bathroom stalls. Other people will do the completely naked locker room stroll thing. It's crazy in my mind too.

I'm the same way. I change out in the open...but I do just that. Change...as. quickly. as. possible.

Hi Nora! This post made me grin :-) I definitely understand your reaction but I have the opposite problem...I like to look :-) Women are so beautiful and I love when women of all shapes and sizes are comfortable in their own skins...gives me hope! I think/hope I will be more comfortable with my own
buck nekkid-ness once I lose some weight. For me, that's what it seems to require. But I look at women like Miss Mud Mask in Thong Panties as amazing almost mythical creatures, kind of like a rainbow unicorn or a mermaid. I'm cheered by catching a rare glimpse of one strutting her stuff and hope to join her ranks some day!

Yeah it's awkward.

I am either a super quick changer or do it in a private room. While I've seen the parading-in-their-birthday-suit-type women, THANKFULLY they've never engaged me in conversation.

At any rate, I hope your neck doesn't hurt too bad from all the looking down, but at least it all made for a highly entertaining post! LOL! :)

I feel the same way, and am always surprised at women who are completely comfortable walking around naked. On one hand, it's great that they feel good enough about their bodies to show them off au natural, but on the other hand, why can't they walk around naked at home and spare me. I don't think of myself as prudish on other topics, but I definitely wish people would maintain some level of modesty in the locker room.

I love Melissa's comment. Unicorn-like naked ladies. Love it. <3

Seeing naked people definitely makes me uncomfortable, but it also makes me really jealous. I wish I could be so secure with my own nakedness. I don't know how you get to that kind of secure place. It's like trying to find Camelot to me. Mythical indeed.

Now this is just my opinion, but it's a locker room and there is nothing wrong with walking around naked if that is what they are comfortable with. Why should they be peanalized because of others own body issues or prudishness. It happens all the time in mens locker rooms and it's not given a second thought. Why should women be ashamed or feel the need to cover their bodies in the privacy of a place they can shower and clean up after a workout or while they are at the spa? 300 years later we still live in a Puritianical socitey it seems.

So with you on this one ~ totally awkward! Anytime I have been in that situation its always an older lady ~ yuck. Although its good motivation to work out hard.
